The Art of Starting a Private Practice with Melissa
Are you considering starting a private practice but feeling overwhelmed by the thought of the business side of things?
Starting a private practice can be daunting, but what if it doesn't have to be stressful and can even be fun, like arts and crafts? Melissa, a member of the Business School for Therapists community, knows this firsthand.
After a decade of working in residential treatment and as part of a group practice, she realized she wasn't reaching her full potential as a therapist. So, she decided to niche down and open her private practice.
At first, Melissa found the business aspect of building her practice challenging. But just as an artist pushes through to create something beautiful, she realizes building a private practice can be like making art. It can be hard at first, but if you think of it as a fun project and do what you love, it won't be as stressful.
Fast forward seven years, and her practice has become so successful that she’s had to expand it into a group practice.
Beyond traditional therapy sessions, she now offers EMDR intensives and consultation, providing multiple streams of income for her practice.
In this episode, Melissa shares how she transformed building her private practice into a creative process, along with the toughest lesson she learned. Melissa also provides useful advice for group practice owners.
