What to Know Before Starting a Private Practice with Dawn

To succeed as a private practice owner, you must be a great therapist AND a good business owner… but grad school programs are often limited to the clinical side of practice.

And while searching for information to fill in the business gaps, it’s easy to find too many resources scattered around the internet and none that seem specific enough for your needs.

When Dawn first started her private practice, she felt overwhelmed by the fact that she didn’t have any knowledge of running a business and was afraid she’d go bankrupt outsourcing everything.

But after joining Business School for Therapists, she learned she didn’t need a business degree to be successful in private practice. All she needed was a supportive community and expert resources to overcome the challenges of being a business owner.

Now, not only does Dawn feel much more confident as a private practice owner, but she also knows how to say NO to insurance and maintains a fully private-pay practice. And she’s replaced 50% of her previous income only three months after launching her practice!

In this episode, Dawn shares her journey from graduating with a biology degree to becoming an LMHC and having her own successful private practice, her struggle with burnout while working in community mental health, and some aha moments from Business School for Therapists.
