Showing Up As Your Authentic Self in Private Practice with Karen

We spoke with Karen, a trauma recovery specialist in Salem, OR, about the benefits of telemental health sessions, being authentic in our relationships with clients, and setting realistic expectations for your business.

Despite the difficulties posed by Covid-19, she had developed a great business foundation with a strong referral base and now requires little to no marketing to stay afloat. Listen to how she had the confidence to know the transition to telehealth was the right one for her.

Watch and listen below!

How are you pivoting or supporting your community during Covid-19?: First thing was donating to a homeless outreach some equipment for people, I’m Telehealth all the way, I have created a free coaching program on YouTube and Facebook for people to begin getting to know themselves better so they can make changes in their lives.

Your Experience with Bootcamp in one sentence: I have grown so much with the help of Bootcamp.

How were you feeling before you signed up for Bootcamp?: Overwhelmed, out of control financially, lacking in confidence, unable to make decisions about my business and generally feeling like I couldn’t run my business.

What did your private practice look like before Bootcamp started?: I was contracting with a company with a few other insurance companies. I was making pretty descent monthly income but had little left over. I got behind in taxes because I couldn’t understand how to manage my finances. I was in need of an overhaul in a big way.

How do you feel after Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: I feel like I have completely changed the way I look at my business. I have a better idea of how to handle the financial aspect of my business, I have dropped most of the insurance panels, quit working with that agency, reduced my overhead significantly and have better control over my personal life. I’m still working on it but now I know that is how it is supposed to be instead of feeling like I don’t know what I’m doing. I am even stepping out of my comfort zone and doing some work online. It isn’t a solid new business yet but I have become comfortable with taking things slow and showing up as myself thanks to you two modeling that behavior. This has been the best money I have spent so far in my business when you consider value per dollar. (see me being all financially savvy and junk)

How have your private practice and life changed after Bootcamp (processes, clinically, work-life balance, financially)?: Financially and work life balance for sure

What would you say to someone else who is on the fence about joining Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: Best money you will ever spend if you choose to do the work. Do it at your own pace and keep using it because it is always available to you. You never graduate from Bootcamp.

What do you wish you had known about private practice before you started?: Wow, big question, how to over come my anxiety about being a business woman and that I can learn all of the processes if I give myself time.
