Struggling in Private Practice Discussion Panel

Struggling Practice Discussion Panel with Miranda Palmer, Kelly Higdon, Erin Bennetts, Tabitha Westbrook, Jennifer Branstetter, Lauren Hahn, Gina Aguayo, Nikki Nolet, and Susan Butler

Struggling in private practice doesn't look the same for everyone. You have a full practice but are unable to pay off bills. You created an awesome website but it's not converting prospects into clients. You accept insurance panels and feel burnt out from the overwhelming number of clients. You pay contractors more when they work fewer hours than you. You move to a new state and have to start from scratch.

In this episode of Starting a Counseling Practice, we feature various Business School for Therapists alumni who had setbacks in their journeys into private practice. Our guests share ways they weren't progressing in their businesses and where they are now. Topics vary from partnership struggles, mindset shifts, personal life, and lack of business knowledge.

Our alumni reveal how Business School helped them create a foundation for their practice that improves clinical outcomes and their lives. From getting the tools they needed to succeed, improving self-esteem, and being a part of a supportive community available 24/7, each guest felt they were able to grow and develop their practice after joining.

Resources Discussed:

  • Erin, LCSW in Littleton, had a full practice with a partnership but wasn’t making ends meet. She handed everything over, started from scratch, and built her practice back up into a better position.

  • Tabitha, LMFT in Raleigh, worked multiple jobs to sustain herself and her son. She now owns a group practice, runs two offices in Texas, and works from home.

  • Jennifer, LCSW in Cincinnati, felt burnt out from only accepting insurance panels and trying to fit her life into her business. She now works less and makes more, which has helped her become a better clinician and improve her work-life balance.

  • Lauren, LMHC in Orlando, worked all the time while generating nothing. After checking out free resources by zynnyme, she joined Business School and expanded into group practice during the pandemic.

  • Gina, PhD and family counselor in Billerica, had zero processes in place as she tried keeping her head above water. Now she’s doubled the size of her practice and bought a commercial business during the pandemic.

  • Nikki, LMFT in San Diego, didn’t feel confident with her work as she began the Business School program. She since was able to remove head trash as she measured her success with each module and became confident in her work.

  • Susan, LCSW in Baton Rouge, a new enrollee in the program, works with 35 patients for 55 hours a week. Despite her high caseload and working hours, she feels confident in her with the support she’s received from the zynnyme community and coaches.
