From Burnt Out Government Healthcare to Successful Group Practice: Kimberly’s Story

Here we are 30 days into 2024… 1/12 of the way through the year… are you making progress towards your vision? Remember it is progress, not perfection. Today we are coming to you with a success story from one of our Business Schoolers to inspire you to start taking action, no matter your stage, and no matter how small it may seem.

Meet Kimberly

In 2019, this social worker with a heart full of passion and nearly twenty years under their belt, made a game-changing decision. They were in a government healthcare job, yes, but oh, the burnout! Their caseload was sky-high, and their work-life balance? Non-existent. They were running on empty, juggling compassion fatigue while trying to keep up with family life.

Then came the 'aha' moment: To get the life they dreamed of, both for themselves and their family, it was time to wave goodbye to the agency life and hello to private practice. Talk about a leap of faith! They were stepping into new territory, armed with hope and a sprinkle of apprehension.

What started as a humble solo practice soon blossomed into something amazing. Before they knew it, they had a waiting list nearly a hundred people long! Success? Absolutely, but with it came new mountains to climb. The next big dream? Starting a group practice.

Navigating this new adventure was like riding a rollercoaster of emotions, especially when it came to leading a team. But they dove in headfirst, embracing every challenge with a mix of courage and excitement. They learned to face their fears, label them for what they were, and gracefully dance around them.

Fast forward to today, and voilà! Their group practice is the talk of the town. It's a hub of healing and hope, offering everything from trauma yoga to emotionally focused therapy. They've created a sanctuary where families can heal together, offering everything from art therapy for the little ones to guidance for the golden agers.

This journey wasn't just about professional growth; it was a personal revolution. From fearing leadership to steering a thriving team, from dreading finances to mastering the art of money management – what a transformation! Now, the financial spreadsheets are like a trusted sidekick, guiding them through every decision.

So here they are, living their dream, and doing what they love. Their story isn't just about a shift from public to private practice; it's a tale of resilience, determination, and the joy of making a real difference. It's a reminder that with a bit of courage and a lot of heart, anything is possible.

What about  you? What is your decision and plan for 2024?

Miranda Palmer
I have successfully built a cash pay psychotherapy practice from scratch on a shoestring budget. I have also failed a licensed exam by 1 point (only to have the licensing board send me a later months later saying I passed), started an online study group to ease my own isolation and have now reached thousands of therapists across the country, helped other therapists market their psychotherapy practices, and helped awesome business owners move from close to closing their doors, to being profitable in less than 6 weeks. I've failed at launching online programs. I've had wild success at launching online programs. I've made mistakes in private practice I've taught others how to avoid my mistakes. You can do this. You were called to this work. Now- go do it! Find some help or inspiration as you need it- but do the work!
