Finding Passion and Confidence in Private Practice with Krista
Krista is a special education teacher and licensed clinical social worker in Austin, TX who works with adults with ADHD and anxiety.
In this interview, she shares her “awakening” story about how a divorce moved her business from being a hobby to being a business she loves. She talks about how having ADHD impacts her approach to building her business and how she’s used Bootcamp as a resource for the past 6 years, both to build her practice and to shift with each new thing thrown her way.
How are you pivoting or supporting your community during COVID-19?: I provide Telehealth services only at this time.
Your experience with Bootcamp in one sentence: Bootcamp was a lifesaver!
How were you feeling before you signed up for Bootcamp?: I was lost and confused. I had a dream but no direction!
What did your private practice look like before Bootcamp started?: I had started seeing clients part-time as I was working full-time as a Director of Social Services for Brookdale Senior Living. I was too scared to quit, so I transitioned slowly.
How do you feel after Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: I feel confident and I have a plan! I have a plan for every aspect of business. It went from a hobby to a thriving business.
How have your private practice and life changed after Bootcamp (processes, clinically, work-life balance, financially)?: As a result of attending Bootcamp, my practice is now run as a business. The "ideal day" exercise has become my typical day today. I have a business model I follow and I have systems in place to keep me on task. My fee supports me and what I need to make in order to make a profit. I feel confident in charging my fee. Creating a niche was critical and then making sure all my content stays on brand. What I do is clear and because of that I attract clients with ease. My work-life balance has improved greatly by setting a fee that allows me to take time off and not feel guilty. I’m okay with putting my needs first in order to be the best for my clients.
What would you say to someone else who is on the fence about joining Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: Best investment you will ever make. Everything you ever need to know about starting and running a practice is covered in Bootcamp. Also, you are in it forever which means you have the best resource to access as needed along the way! Now that I’m full, I’m looking at other means of passive income, which is also covered. It really is a one stop shop!
What do you wish you had known about private practice before you started?: How to manage a full practice! The goal is to be full but I never imagined being full would bring on other challenges. Bootcamp offers guidance in that area too and how to avoid burnout. I have to say I found Bootcamp early on in my career so I’m grateful that I started out on the right foot from the beginning. I knew insurance was not for me and Miranda's script for answering calls was so helpful. I know today if I can get a potential client on the phone I can close the sale with confidence and pride that I will be a perfect fit.
