Adapting from Offline to Virtual Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Gary, PhD, LMFT, FAPA, offers private individual counseling, marriage counseling, and family counseling for individuals and couples in West Los Angeles, CA. and has been in private practice for over 30 years with no plans to retire as he can't imagine ending his career in a field that he so loves to be in. Since the pandemic, he has transitioned from 100% offline, in-person therapy to fully remote, secure telehealth sessions via Zoom for Healthcare.
Gary was successful financially but struggled with work-life balance and the more technical aspects of running a business. After joining Business School for Therapists, he hired IT help and an SEO professional, moving from page 8/9 in the search results to the first page of Google.
Now, he works less than 20 hours per week and has increased his fees, so his lifestyle hasn’t been impacted by schedule changes. Since transitioning to telehealth, Gary serves clients throughout California and offers pro bono virtual sessions to his frontline healthcare provider colleagues. He’s also better able to support his daughter, who’s been impacted by a catastrophic accident.
