Marketing a private practice in 2024: Rebecca’s Success Story

It can be so incredibly frustrating when you know you (and your team) do great work. You know you have something to offer…but the phone just isn’t ringing! Here is the story of Rebecca, one of our Business Schoolers and her journey from feeling lost to feeling clear.

Meet Rebecca, the dynamo behind Ship's Counseling PC in North Riverside, Illinois. Her journey in the mental health field spans a remarkable 20 years, weaving through residential nursing homes, hospitals, community mental health, and more. In 2011, she took the plunge into private practice, evolving it into a group practice by 2018 and scooping up a building in 2020. But by March 2023, she found herself at a crossroads, seeking resources during a particularly tough time. That is how she found Business School for Therapists.

She penned her feelings during this period, reflecting a dream to create a nurturing space, to guide young clinicians, and to make a positive impact. Despite her noble intentions, she felt depleted, giving endlessly without seeing a return on her investment. She felt drained and undervalued, carrying a weight that hadn't been acknowledged for years.

Realizing the need for change, particularly in marketing - what was the good of having all of this when people weren’t calling at the rate to keep everyone full? Rebecca set out to transform her practice. She is a great therapist with a fantastic team and a beautiful space and she was ready to shout it from the rooftops!

Diving into the world of digital marketing, she revamped her website mastering the art of engaging writing that truly resonates with people. Her journey into learning SEO was a game-changer, figuring out the delicate balance between what Google loves and what actually connects with potential clients. She started attending networking sessions, understanding her worth and the value she brings.

The results? Calls started coming in. She's been hiring new therapists, filling her team's schedules, and even more excitingly, she's been able to pay herself more. Personal victories followed suit – a new family dog, tutoring for her daughter, a rejuvenating trip to Mexico, and finally, some much-deserved 'me time' with fewer clients and regular gym visits.

Rebecca's story isn't just about professional growth; it's about rediscovering self-worth, balancing life and work, and embracing the joy of helping others. She's a living testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of self-reinvention.

Miranda Palmer
I have successfully built a cash pay psychotherapy practice from scratch on a shoestring budget. I have also failed a licensed exam by 1 point (only to have the licensing board send me a later months later saying I passed), started an online study group to ease my own isolation and have now reached thousands of therapists across the country, helped other therapists market their psychotherapy practices, and helped awesome business owners move from close to closing their doors, to being profitable in less than 6 weeks. I've failed at launching online programs. I've had wild success at launching online programs. I've made mistakes in private practice I've taught others how to avoid my mistakes. You can do this. You were called to this work. Now- go do it! Find some help or inspiration as you need it- but do the work!
