Best Therapist Website Templates in 2023
Whether you’re a new private practice owner or have had a practice for years and want to revamp the website for your business, website templates are your best friend.
Creating a website from scratch can be expensive, time-consuming, and confusing – especially if you don’t understand web design or how to code. Website templates simplify that process.
A well-designed website captures your ideal client’s attention and provides them with an easy-to-navigate interface that gets them excited to learn about your services.
To get you started, we collected some of the best therapist website templates available online. With these pre-made designs, creating the one-of-a-kind and user-friendly website of your private practice dreams is easy and won’t break the bank!
What Should You Consider When Choosing a Website Template for Your Private Practice
Now that you know a website template is where you want to start with your new private practice site, here are some pointers to take into consideration before you begin:
Ease of Use
You want a therapist website template that’s intuitive and easy to use, so you can set up your website without wanting to pull your hair out of your head! Squarespace is known for helping people build a website with ease, and you can choose from a wide variety of templates.
(We personally use Squarespace and have found it to be easier than alternatives — so, if you like the design of our site, it’s worth checking out creating one of your own!)
Security
Your potential clients’ data needs to be safe and secure. Look for websites that are hosted on secure servers with access control enabled, so website visitors don’t have their personal information exposed by security vulnerabilities.
Responsive Design
You want visitors that come to your website to have a good experience, regardless of whether they’re checking it out from a desktop computer, mobile phone, or tablet. A good website will scale for mobile devices without losing functionality or visuals.
Adaptability
A great template will need to be flexible enough for you to customize it with just a few clicks so that your website looks and feels like an extension of your practice.
Customization Options
This factor depends on how much customization you’d like. If you want more freedom to customize your website, such as choosing colors, fonts, and widgets, you’ll want a website template that gives you the ability to do so.
Integrated Booking System and Marketing Tools
A great therapist website template will help you manage clients online by allowing them to schedule an appointment via an integrated appointment booking system (Squarespace has a great scheduling tool for online appointments). You may also want to look for website templates with helpful marketing tools like an email list creation form or automation capabilities (like a confirmation email sent out when an appointment is scheduled).
Hot Tip: Make sure that any software integration offered is compatible with any third-party tools or software solutions you use before signing up.
Overview of Private Practice Website Templates
Creating a website for your private practice is now easier than ever. With the right website template, even someone without any coding knowledge can still build a website that looks professional. Here’s an overview of private practice website templates you can choose from (be sure to check out our preferred website template for therapists below):
Squarespace (our personal favorite)
Squarespace is an all-in-one platform with everything you need to create a visually stunning and easy-to-navigate therapist website. It comes with pre-built themes designed specifically for mental health professionals that can be customized to align with your private practice vision.
The website builder also integrates with Zapier, giving therapists access to appointment reminders and intake forms. (If you don’t know, Zapier allows you to connect different types of software together that normally wouldn’t be related. So, for example, if someone scheduled an appointment via Squarespace, you could set up a Zap to connect it to your HIPPA-compliant email software, so you receive reminders about upcoming appointments with clients.)
WordPress (more complex option)
WordPress.com* offers free themes designed for therapists looking for more customization. You can choose colors, fonts, sections, plugins, and more to add content to your website. We do feel these templates are more difficult to navigate than Squarespace’s, so be mindful of that!
For more information about all things WordPress.org*, including the pros and cons, and a review we did on Brighter Vision’s custom templates for therapists on this platform, be sure to read our post on WordPress.org and website design.
*The main difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org is the way your website is hosted on these platforms. WordPress.com provides you with their hosting platform while WordPress.org is a self-hosted solution. WordPress.org gives you the freedom for more advanced customization and is not the best path for therapists, as a custom-designed site can cost a lot of money (and a lot of a web developer’s time) upfront whenever you want to first design or update your website. And while you could learn how to do these things on your own, there’s a much bigger learning curve than if you simply choose an alternative like Squarespace.
GoDaddy (another alternative)
GoDaddy also has pre-made templates for therapists and provides everything from domain name registration to website hosting services all in one place. Be sure to familiarize yourself with our dictionary of website terms for therapists. We go over everything from website hosting to choosing a domain to SEO and more!
What Not to Do: Website Template for Therapists
We went over what to look for in a website template. Now here’s what to watch out for:
Don’t use a color scheme that won’t look aesthetically pleasing to your ideal clients.
Don’t use more than two or three fonts on your private practice website.
Don’t use a font that’s hard to read — you want your site to be accessible!
Don’t customize every page to look different, as it can distract visitors.
Don’t make customization too technical with images, videos, and more. Keep it simple.
