First Step to Planning In Your Private Practice
How to Create Your Private Practice Plan
Maybe you started out the year with a ton of great intentions and expectations. All of those hopes turned into a to-do list, projects, and goals. As you face another year of running your private practice, you start to list your intentions for what is to come.
While this end-of-the-year planning is quite typical, we find it to be an ongoing process all year long. Any time we feel uninspired, stuck, or confused, we go back to our vision to guide us into the next steps we need to take.
The Missing Step in Your Private Practice Plan
Private practice owners stay in the planning and doing mode of their business. There is so much going on that they miss a crucial step in what can make that planning so much more effective.
Celebration
Just like in therapy, we can look to our past for lessons, not only of what not to do, but what to continue and what to celebrate. Can you imagine a therapist that never celebrated the good stuff with their clients? Can you imagine them glossing over the transformations and moving into the next thing that needed to be explored?
Nope. We don’t want to be in that kind of relationship at all.
So why would you do the same to you and your private practice?
Celebrate Your Private Practice Wins!
Take a listen to this short video and make your Reverse Bucket List. Kelly first learned about this from a friend, who like her is quite driven and can often forget to take a moment to appreciate what has happened. It’s an exercise she visits at least 2 to 3 times a year.
Your private practice and YOU deserve some praise. Nurturing yourself gives back to both of you.
How to Celebrate Your Practice and Life
Get out a sheet of paper. Sit comfortably and alert and close your eyes. Take a moment to think back on the start of this year.
Look at your business. While there may have been unexpected changes that have happened, what has been good? What did you do? What are you proud of?
Look at your life. Reflect on who you have become, what you have done and what you experienced or learned.
Look at the intersection of your business and life. Out of those things that are good, how did it impact both your life and business?
Are you having trouble even conceptualizing time right now? You are not alone! Get out that paper or online calendar and go week by week and look at what happened in the last 12 months. You will be SHOCKED at how much you’ve done!
Now write down the things you have done, accomplished, experienced and learned in both your business and life. Reflect on this anytime you feel stuck. We also encourage you to share it with someone and allow them to celebrate YOU.
Create a New Vision
We find that after reflection, the vision moving forward can become much deeper and more meaningful. It can also be way more exciting because you know that more celebration is to come.
