Achieving Stability and Success Amidst Family Crisis with Heather

Heather LMFT, CSAT, provides therapy for sex addiction and betrayal trauma in Upland, CA.

She shared with us her private practice journey of overcoming and navigating through family crisis, supporting her family on one income, and finding stability in the business she created.

When COVID-19 hit, she was confident and secure that regardless of what her business faced, she would see it through. Heather has since transitioned to providing Telehealth services only, has a STUFFED practice, AND a waiting list of clients ready for all she has to offer as a “tough love” therapist.

How are you pivoting or supporting your community during COVID-19?: I offered "mini" sessions of 25 minutes to allow for ongoing support at half the fee of a full session. I've had to pivot for other reasons (family health concerns), so I've made a lot of adjustments in the past 3 months, including extending my hours and offering intensives for couples.

Your experience with Bootcamp in one sentence: The best part about Bootcamp is the ongoing, tenacious support of both the coaches and the community.

How were you feeling before you signed up for Bootcamp?: I signed up for Bootcamp shortly after starting my private practice, and I was already confident that Bootcamp would help me start things off well because of all the free trainings I'd watched the year leading up to getting licensed.

What did your private practice look like before Bootcamp started?: Brand new, no insurance, and in a new city, so it was totally up to me to build it. Bootcamp helped start me off on the right foot!

How do you feel after Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: Confident, clear, and capable (even though I sometimes struggle to execute things, I know it's about "head trash" and not a lack of skill or support).

How have your private practice and life changed after Bootcamp (processes, clinically, work-life balance, financially)?: First, I've made AMAZING friends who I can trust both clinically and personally! I believe wholeheartedly that I can have a practice that meets my family's needs AND serves the people I care about, and I've been able to achieve that because of Bootcamp.

What would you say to someone else who is on the fence about joining Business School Bootcamp for Therapists?: Oh my gosh, just do it! You literally have so much to gain, and the fact that it's lifetime makes it the absolute best investment you can possibly make in your business (and yourself)!

What do you wish you had known about private practice before you started?: Financials! I knew about how to talk about fees before, but only from a low-median range fee scale. Being confident in charging a livable fee was one of the main things I gained in Bootcamp. Plus, there's so much more to learn, and BSB has taught me how to manage all things numbers.
