Professional Development in Private Practice

updated 1/25/2023

I remember in my agency work and county work I had a requirement for professional development hours. This meant attending trainings mainly that were provided or sometimes if I was lucky, I could take some time away to go to an event. Remember those days? Asking the boss for time away so you can work on your professional development.

Make Time for Professional Development as a Therapist

When you are in private practice, your professional development doesn’t stop but you are the only one who can make time for it. Have you asked your boss for some time to focus on your professional development? (ahem…that would be asking yourself)

We have decided to support the efforts of SmartPractioner. No worries, we don’t get a financial kickback or anything, it was an organization that we wanted to support because of what they are providing to therapists. They offer CE courses, certifications, webinars, and other discounts to help you continue with your professional development. Other partners include Brighter Vision, The Trust, Track Your Hours, We Counsel, and more.

SmartPractioner is for you no matter where you are in your journey – a student, pre-licensed, working in an agency, or running a private practice.

Zynnyme worked with SmartPractitioner a couple of years back to extend a 1-year subscription for free, a $120 value!

I do like free because it allows you to test things out and see if it is a good fit for you.

Online professional development and tools, all online for your convenience – what are you doing for your professional development this year?

Miranda Palmer
I have successfully built a cash pay psychotherapy practice from scratch on a shoestring budget. I have also failed a licensed exam by 1 point (only to have the licensing board send me a later months later saying I passed), started an online study group to ease my own isolation and have now reached thousands of therapists across the country, helped other therapists market their psychotherapy practices, and helped awesome business owners move from close to closing their doors, to being profitable in less than 6 weeks. I've failed at launching online programs. I've had wild success at launching online programs. I've made mistakes in private practice I've taught others how to avoid my mistakes. You can do this. You were called to this work. Now- go do it! Find some help or inspiration as you need it- but do the work!
