You are invited to the book club for Irvin D. Yalom's new book
To be successful in private practice long-term, you need to strive to be an amazing therapist, No, you don't have to be perfect, but you need to want to be exemplary. I had the honor of reading a pre-release copy of Irvin D. Yalom's new book Creatures of a Day.
Wow.
This book is hands down the most clinically dense book I've ever read. The storytelling format is so incredibly reach, and really speaks to the feeling of what happens in psychotherapy. Yalom shared in our interview with him that each of these stories is meant to teach psychotherapists and psychiatrists alike powerful clinical lessons.

No longer in session!
As I was reading the pre-release copy I felt a little sad. I kept wanting to go and talk to other therapists. I wanted to questions, share my emotional responses, to post quotes... but alas, posting "spoilers" of such an important clinical text didn't feel right.
So Kelly and I put our heads together and decided to host a book club for mental health professionals. Each month will include discussion starters and questions, as well as a live video chat to discuss the book live. Our private group will be limited to mental health professionals, as we will be digging into how this text relates to our clinical work.
What does this have to do with building a private practice?
Everything. The truth is, our clinical effectiveness and confidence has everything to do with what happens in private practice. Whether you are writing content for your therapy website, networking, building a business plan, or choosing how to be with a client- you need to be tapped into who you are (and are not) as a therapist. You have to make peace with what you can do while you are a human on this planet. You need to make peace with death.
My personal experience with this book is transformational, and I can't see you not being changed by reading and engaging with the material. Get your copy of the book here.
