I see it all the time. Burn out, stress, not enjoying the people you are working with and generally those feelings you had when you were employed – those feelings that made you want to leave and start your own practice.
Let’s make a promise to ourselves to start looking after ourselves and start accepting the RIGHT referrals so we can do the work we love, the way we love to do it.
You are a health professional. You give people back their lives. Your life matters too. You can’t give to people unless you’re whole, healthy and fulfilled. Stop working with people that you are not the right fit for. Those energy sapping, draining people that you know that you are not the best fit for.
When you open up your referral sources so that you can accept more of the clients that you want to work with, you won’t accept such hard work anymore. Burn out will become a thing of the past. If you are fearing burn out, chances are you are working with the wrong types of clients.
No is such a powerful word. Saying no to the things which are not right for us, not good for us, opens up the opportunity to say YES to the things we should and want to say yes to. The thing is, if you have too much on your plate, chances are you’re saying yes to things you shouldn’t be saying yes to. Sound familiar?
When we say no to the things that aren’t helpful, useful or serves no purpose to us, it gives us room to say yes to the things we want to say yes to.
I love the power of no and it is something that comes back to me again, and again, and again.
If I’m overwhelmed and out of control, chances are I’m saying yes to things I shouldn’t be saying yes to. The key is to knowing what you should say yes to and what you must say no to.
If you don’t have the right numbers of clients or if you don’t have the right client in your business, then we need to talk and learn to do the work you love, the way you love to do it.
