Apps 101 for Therapists

What is an app?

App simply stands for the term application. Each app is a piece of software that can be downloaded to your smart phone to be used for a specific purpose. For example, if you are looking for events in your area, there's an app for that. If you want to make hotel reservations, there is an app for that. The options are quite endless.

What are the benefits of a business having an app?

For the person with the smartphone, apps make life easier. Did you know mobile users spend 88% of their time on apps?

App Reviews: Great Apps for Nonprofits and Small Business Owners

Nonprofits, like small business owners have very limited budgets and resources. Anything that a nonprofit can do to save time, energy, or money can really translate into a huge return on investment. Even more important, when nonprofits and small business owners are able to better use their resources, it means a greater positive impact on the community around them. So, without further ado- here are some of my favorite apps for nonprofit-esque peeps (yes Lynn Quijada-Splan this one is for you and your nonprofit work!)

Smartphone App Review - 3D Brain

Here at Zynnyme, we are all about making your technology powers work for good, not evil. One of the fantastic things we love to do is use apps in our private practice. So from time to time, we are going to provide a review of an app that we have used and loved.

Today I want to talk about the 3D Brain app. You can find the app for iphone here and for android here. In my practice I utilize a lot of MBSR and mindfulness techniques. Even if you don't use these, you know the research on how you can change your brain. Often I find that clients love learning about their brains and how they work. It is empowering to  know what is happening up there in your head sometimes :)

The app features the ability to rotate and zoom around the interactive brain structures. It covers: how each brain region functions, what happens when it is injured, and how it is involved in mental illness. Each detailed structure comes with information on functions, disorders, brain damage, case studies, and links to modern research (quote from company description).

I have a model of a brain in my office, but take it apart and it is hard to put back together and my clients don't take it with them. This is an app you can use in session when talking to clients and you can encourage your clients to use the app on their own phone to learn more about the parts of their brain that are activated during stress, depression, anxiety or whatever their struggles may be.

Best part, it is FREE! We love FREE! So what do you have to lose if you try it, right?!

So, keep checking back or sign up for our newsletter and get our updates on apps that you can use in your practice for not only business but for your work with clients. -Kelly

I have so many ideas swirling around, but the long and the short of it is- we are made to live and think in community.
