Marketing 101 for Therapists: Tracking Your Marketing Efforts

Marketing 101 for Therapists: Tracking Your Marketing Efforts

The truth is, there are a million things you could do each day to market your private practice and make sure the clients you need you can find you. But, you don't have the time, energy, or desire to sit and spend your time marketing- you want to get to the good part- helping clients!

Here is one quick, easy tip to determine where to spend your time and energy- track your results. One big way we connect with therapists is through our writing. I LOVE to write and it makes my heart happy knowing that I get to write as part of my job!

Tracking what people are reading

The truth is, not everything I write is received with the joy and excitement with which I write it. Some blogs are just better than others- it is important for me to pay attention to what people want- as it can save me time and energy from writing about things that people aren't really interested in.

Our Top 5 Most Shared Private Practice Articles from the Last Year

I went to the BuzzSumo.com and used their free service (they have a more robust paid service) to check to see what people have shared the most from our blog over the last year. Here is what I found:

What do you notice? Is it our nitty gritty detailed posts? Not so much. What is getting shared more than anything else are therapists talking from the heart- whether it is us- or us interviewing other therapists. While we are looking for detailed information, what gets shared the most is what really touches us in a deep way.

Most Shared Private Practice Articles

When I look at the past 6 months, I see that the most shared posts are more related to our new free private practice app for therapists, social media resources for therapists, wordpress designer review, and another real life story, and of course the visionary article still made the cut.

What does this mean for us?

Just this one bit of information that it took me 5 minutes to pull up lets us know that interviewing therapists- which is something we LOVE to do- is an effective way to get our message out into the world! How cool is that? Something we love to do, aligns with something that is effective!

But Does it Bring Us Business?

At the end of the day, it isn't just about being popular, or being shared- it is about ensuring our business can survive the long-term. We can't keep doing awesome free blogs, webinars, and our app if we aren't making income somehow! However, we know that if our message is spreading- the right people will connect and our business will continue to flourish. And yes, we track that too!

What about you? Are you tracking things to see if the things you LOVE doing are working and being seen? Are you giving your stuff a chance to get shared by making sure they get shared initially to social media? Share in the comments below the easy ways you are tracking the impact of the time you spend on marketing.

Miranda Palmer
I have successfully built a cash pay psychotherapy practice from scratch on a shoestring budget. I have also failed a licensed exam by 1 point (only to have the licensing board send me a later months later saying I passed), started an online study group to ease my own isolation and have now reached thousands of therapists across the country, helped other therapists market their psychotherapy practices, and helped awesome business owners move from close to closing their doors, to being profitable in less than 6 weeks. I've failed at launching online programs. I've had wild success at launching online programs. I've made mistakes in private practice I've taught others how to avoid my mistakes. You can do this. You were called to this work. Now- go do it! Find some help or inspiration as you need it- but do the work!
